Axolotls can be difficult creatures to care for. They require lots of attention. I am currently saving up for some, because the total cost for their care is very expensive. You need a filter, a tank, food, chemicals and testers, and of course the axolotls. Axolotls in my are cost around 30-40 dollars, which is a lot. You still have to buy the other things like the tank, which can be very expensive. I am going to be spending $100 on my tank because I found 2 tanks on Craigslist. It comes with 2 tanks, 2 filters, fish food, and surprisingly, fish. I'm going to give most of the fish to Petco, but I'm going to keep some for the 15 gallon tank that comes with this awesome deal, and put my 2 future axolotls in a 20 gallon tank that it comes with. All I have to buy now is chemicals/testers for ammonia and nitrate and nitrite, a sponge to lower the filter's flow, and axolotl food. You need to test the water daily (at least I would recommend it) for ammonia and pH levels and weekly for nitrate and nitrite. You need to change 1/8 of the water once or twice a week, but you cannot change all of it because of health issues. Replace that water with fresh, dechlorinated water. Axolotls need the ability to hide. Make sure you have something like a log decoration or even a PVC pipe that they can hide under. This is all of the information so far that I am very positive on.
